SELF-SUCKING AND BAREBACKING: RIP SCOTT O’HARA

Scott O’Hara was a legendary gay porn star known as ‘The Biggest Dick in San Francisco’ (despite being a bottom himself), and was one of few Porn Stars who possessed the rare talent of ‘auto-fellatio’. Born in 1961, in Grants Pass, Oregon, Scott re-located to the Bay Area at the ripe young age of 18, where he worked as a stripper in San Francisco gay/leather dive bars from 1979. He got his start as a Porn Star in 1983, when he appeared in his first adult film ‘California Blue’. He contracted HIV in the early 80’s, and died aged 36 in 1998. He made a point of smiling while having sex on film, setting him apart from his peers and endearing him to his fans by taking the ‘seriousness’ out of porn. His other main passion (apart from porn) was writing, especially poetry. He published several works of fiction in gay magazines, as well as his own collection of short stories, and ‘autopornography’, his autobiography. His writings on public sex in particular are well worth tracking down. He was an intelligent, articulate young man, and despite having questionable ties to NAMBLA (the North American Man-Boy Love Association), he raised some interesting points on sexuality and adolescence, and was outspoken in his distaste for what he considered the gay mainstream. in 1994, he had ‘HIV+’ tattooed on his left bicep, a testament to the brave, free and wild young man that he was. A true individual who lived his life the only way he knew how - as a free spirit with no limits. And sexy as hell.
